When trick or treating, it's important to have a plan. Planning your route in advance is a great tip for keeping your little one comfortable. Avoid long paths and stick to areas you're familiar with.

If your child is old enough to head out on their own this year make sure they'll be responsible and safe. Confirm that they will be with a few friends the entire night, and have them pick a specific buddy so if the group splits up they're never alone.

Halloween can be a super exciting day for kids, so sometimes they forget they need to follow basic safety rules. Make sure they know to stay on the sidewalk and continue to look both ways before crossing the street.

Once the trick or treating is over you have to make sure your kid's candy haul is safe to eat - especially because parents also deserve a cut of the profit. It's important to throw away any candy that is not sealed with a wrapper and avoid homemade treats from strangers.

In addition to candy safety, it's important to make sure your child's costume is safe. If makeup is part of their look, make sure it's non-toxic. It's also a good idea to do a patch test on your child's skin to make sure they're not allergic. And even if your kid is obsessed with their Halloween makeup and never wants to take it off, make sure they wash it off before bed.

These tips will help make your Halloween night a fun family event instead of a stressful and unsafe occasion. Unfortunately, we can't help out with the inevitable sugar rush they're going to have. Good luck!
