Marriage can look quite different depending on the couple and the way that they approach their relationship.
One young newlywed couple is causing quite the stir online after admitting some of their “rules” for each other.
Extreme marriage boundaries share by a stay-at-home wife
A viral TikTok video detailing extreme marriage “boundaries” has created a bit of a heated debate online.
According to her videos, Jojo is a self-proclaimed “stay-at-home wife” and devout Christian.
She’s from a Conservative Christian community
Jojo’s rules might not seem shocking within her conservative Christian community, but when she shared her rather extreme rules online, people had something to say.
Her clip has now racked up over 8.3 million views in the short time since it was posted.
Infidelity is an important subject in their marriage
It’s no secret that far-right-leaning Christians put particular focus on the fear and prevention of infidelity.
You don’t have to look farther than their TikTok accounts to see that some couples are following strictly enforced rules in their marriage to avoid the temptation of cheating.
The 19 and 21-year-old couple is married but still in college
Jojo’s video caption says, “boundaries in our marriage while we’re still in college!!!” followed by the hashtag #wifelife.
She then goes on to detail some of the “boundaries” that she and her husband have set in place.
They are not allowed to sit beside the opposite sex in class
She starts by explaining, “Rule number one is we’re not allowed to sit beside the opposite sex in any of our classes.”
And if you think that’s controlling, buckle up.
They are not allowed to respond to a discussion post by the opposite gender
Not only can they not sit beside a member of the opposite sex, but they’re also not allowed to engage with someone of the opposite sex during any online school discussions.
That means potentially sacrificing grades to avoid an interaction!
They are willing to sacrifice their grades for it
Jojo then offers people an example.
“Last night, Tucker saw this really good discussion board [post] by a girl named Riley, and I was just like ‘I don’t really feel comfortable with that,’ so, yeah, he didn’t respond to her.”
Both Tucker and Jojo are on board but is it too much?
There are a million red flags with the first two “boundaries” Jojo and her husband Tucker have set.
Starting with the controlling element and working all the way up to assuming people’s genders.
Rule number three is harder to stick to
But that’s not where it ends. The couple’s third boundary is almost more surprising.
Jojo admits that “Rule number three is kind of hard to stick to” before describing the final boundary.
They must only take classes taught by professors of the same gender as them
The young woman then says, “we try our very best to only have professors of the same gender as us.”
This one is almost as ridiculous as it is impossible!
Her husband sits in on the one class when she has a male teacher
Jojo admits, “I do have one male psychology professor, but Tucker usually sits in on that class with me.”
Ah, yes, because there is nothing weird or controlling about that. Commenters felt like this rule is where things went from believable to completely unhinged.
They must always mention they are married during introductions
The fourth and final boundary that Jojo outlines is a more straightforward one and potentially the most normal of them all.
Both Jojo and Tucker must mention that they are married during their first day of class introductions.
Some people supported Jojo but most commenters were skeptical
Although these rules might sound extreme to some, viewers who grew up in a conservative Christian community could relate to the boundaries the young couple supposedly stuck to.
On the flip side, other people don’t buy the whole story.
Some people accused her rules of being fake
TikTok users left judgmental comments calling out the creator for “faking” her rules and even her marriage.
The rules seemed so extreme to some that they could only be satire. But based on Jojo’s social media, she’s dead serious about her and her husband’s well-defined boundaries.
