Journalist Tries To Shame Couple Who Got Engaged At KFC And Twitter Isn’t Having It
People can be really judgemental, especially when it's through a computer screen. Everyone has their opinions, which is fine, but sometimes they're just straight-up wrong.
There are certain things in the world that should be celebrated no matter what, like love and family and community. Every once in a while, a story surfaces on the internet that reminds us of these values.
Getting Married Is An Exciting Thing
But first, someone has to pop the question, which can be really nerve-racking. There are so many things to consider! Like where to purpose, and should you do in front of other people?
This Couple In South Africa Got Engaged In A KFC
From the picture, you can clearly see that they are overjoyed! It was a special moment for them. There are big smiles and happy tears, and you'll be happy to know that she said yes. Naturally, the moment was captured and posted on KFC's twitter.
But, There Are Some People Who Just Won't Let People Enjoy Things
Anele, a journalist from the area, commented that the KFC proposal lacked class. This is clearly outrageous, something she was soon going to find out. The tweet has since been removed and her account set to private.
Twitter Was All Over Defending The Happy Couple
If someone wants to purpose to the love of their life at a KFC, that's their business. We don't know what that place means to them. Maybe it's where they had their first date?
Love Is Something To Be Celebrated
It doesn't matter if you make grand declarations with expensive gifts and a fancy engagement, or if you do something more low key and personal. What matters is that the moment meant something to you both.
KFC Wanted To Congratulate The Couple
So, they put up a tweet asking the general public to help track the happy couple down. In their tweet they said, 're batla ho ba blesser,' which means we want to bless them.
Naturally, It Didn't Take Them Long
Since everyone is an internet sleuth these days, it took no more than a day for Twitter to find them and get their info to the KFC that wanted to celebrate their love.
Meet Hector and Nonhlanhla
The couple says they are humbled and overjoyed, if not overwhelmed with all the love from the internet. On top of the moral support they received, they were also offered some pretty amazing gifts.
Other Huge Companies Wanted To Support The Couple's New Engagement As Well
And soon the KFC's twitter thread asking for help finding the couple was full of offers and gifts from big companies, including competitors like McDonald's. Each one of the gifts is more extravagant than the last.
McDonald's Wanted In On The Action
They offered to send the couple on their honeymoon and an awesome VIP experience with Toni Braxton, who was playing in the area at the time. The average couple spends between $4,000 and $5,000 on a honeymoon.
They Got Offered A Camera To Capture Their Memories
Canon was generous enough to donate a camera, which is valued at about $800. They also had numerous offers from local photographers offering to capture the memories of their big day.
Every Wedding Needs A Venue Right?
Ticket Pro Dome and Comic Con Africa were one of the many venues to step up and offer their help. The venue is so huge it's used for concerts and exhibitions and would allow them to invite up to 5000 guests!
They Got A Second Honeymoon Offer
This second honeymoon would include some much needed time away to unwind. Companies made other offers to cover the cost of their honeymoon, including the flights and spa packages. Talk about being pampered.
They'll Be Looking Sharp
Puma, among other companies, offered to keep them looking good for their big day. Barbers, hair salons, and tailors all offered their services to the KFC couple, should they want them.
Transportation Was Not Going To Be An Issue
As I'm sure you guessed, Audi wasn't the only one to donate vehicles to the cause — Lexus, Land Rover, and VW did as well. Uber also threw themselves in there offering to look after their guests.
Then Things Got Wild
In addition to many generous financial gifts, The Standard Bank offered to pay off any debts they may have, up to $20,000. Imagine going into the new chapter in your life with a clean financial slate?
It Didn't Stop There
There were offers to host the engagement party, which is going to be big because it seems like all of South Africa wants to attend. So many companies were excited to offer their support and show love.
It Wasn't Just Big Companies Either, Local Business Offered As Well
People from all over the community offered their services to the couple, which is extremely generous given they don't have the revenue the larger companies do. But, I can only imagine the exposure their generosity got them.
They Were Being Offered The Star Treatment
Many local salons and barbers offered to pamper Hector and Nonhlanhla on their big day, as well as the bridal party. They were going to be looking fly and feeling relaxed.
Who Couldn't Use A Spa Day?
Planning a wedding can naturally be stressful, even if a bunch of companies are coming to their aid and offering their services. What better way to prepare to walk down the aisle than by laying back for a relaxing spa treatment beforehand?
The Best Gifts Are Practical Ones
So you can imagine how amazing it would be to be offered help with your accounting, or money for groceries, which they were also offered by at least five different grocery stores.
Even Their Home Was Getting Love
Two companies offered to help renovate their home and make it a place they were excited to start their lives in. They were also offered help from a storage solutions company, which is pretty awesome.
Look At These Babies
Even though Nonhlanhla was probably thrilled with the ring Hector gave her, how could you say no to that beauty of a ring? It's huge! And handcrafted in the area.
The Gifts Kept Coming
Clareb Accessories offered to provide them with everything they would need for a traditional wedding day. None of that stuff comes cheap, but it's important to celebrate the cultures we come from.
Someone Even Offered Them Jobs
This would be an incredible gift if either of them were out of work. It's a gift that would keep supporting them long after their wedding, which is probably going to be pretty extravagant.
Twitter Is Pretty Much In Love With Them
Hector and Nonhlanhla are being called Mzansi's favorite couple. But who could blame them? Seeing people in love is one of the greatest things about being human, and it's something we should all be trying to support whenever possible.
Everyone Was Overwhelmed
The amount of love and support that came out of the community for the couple is breathtaking and has a lot of people feeling proud to come from South Africa.
We Need More Stories Like This
We have to focus on the good in life, especially when those times can seem few and far between. Let's celebrate the great things, like Hector and Nonhlanhla finding their happily ever after.
In Case You're Wondering, They've Set A Date
The couple will be tying the knot on December 31, 2019. KFC has said that the couple is so grateful and wants some privacy working out the details of their wedding. KFC has offered them an event coordinator to look after everything for them.
Now For The Most Important Question
Will KFC be catering this wedding? Because it seems like something they should do, and I would imagine they would even do it for free. Think of how finger-lickin' good it would be!
