Twitter Users Share Things Their Parents Mispronounce or Misuse Like ‘Diabeetus’

Family members have a way of pushing each other’s buttons that is different than any other relationship you’ll have. Even if you’re super close with your family, your parents are going to do things that annoy you, and one of those things probably includes mispronouncing words for no reason.

Something about your mom mispronouncing the name of your favorite TV show or your dad calling you by the dog’s name is irritating beyond all belief.

You Just Can’t Help It

You know it’s not rational to be annoyed by her calling it “Pets City” because it has absolutely no effect on you or your life, but it annoys you none the less.

So It Really Is Like Talking To A Brick Wall

Yes, obviously the saying is “like talking to a brick wall,” but is she entirely wrong in saying “like a blank wall”? No, she’s not. This would annoy us if our mom did it, though, so it’s a bit of a draw.

He’s The Only Character That Matters To Her

Every television show has a character who we can all agree is the true lead of the show, even if it’s not who the show is actually based around. Your mom is just pointing out the real protagonist.

How Often Does She Say It?

How often is the word “diabetes” being brought up in natural conversation in your household that you actually remember how your mom pronounces it and remember how much it bothers you?

Say My Name, Say My Name, Say My Name

Okay, look. We’re willing to forgive the “Sandra” and “Samantha” slip-ups because those sound similar to Sophie, but Jessica? We can’t forgive that one. No one confuses Sophie and Jessica.

This Couldn’t Have Been Wrose

This is arguably one of the worst things you could’ve called it instead of salad dressing, and it makes us never want to eat a salad again. We didn’t want to anyway, but this seals the deal.

Wash Your Fingers, And Your Hands Too, While You’re At It

If someone were to ask this person for a list of things their dad does to annoy them, they’d be ready to go. Using initials for random things is probably the worst one because it just ends in everyone being confused.

Maybe They’re Just Saying Hi

Is this app really mentioned so frequently in your daily life that your parents have been able to develop an annoying way of pronouncing it? Just delete the app and the parents, you’ll be fine.

Scream Queen

Everyone knows that dads are the loudest sneezers, but a person who screams when they sneeze is a whole different breed, and it’s a breed we hope we don’t ever encounter because it sounds terrifying.

Did She Ever Find Out Where To Buy Them?

Was she simply googling that sentence in hopes of finding out the answer, or was she misremembering the name of the film? The people need to know, and your mum needs to find her fantastic beasts.

Technology is confusing, okay? Not everyone is technologically-savvy, and the sooner you realize that, the happier you’ll be in life, especially if you choose to work in tech and have to help other people figure it out.

Rodrick Is The Apple Of Her Eye

Maybe the reason she doesn’t remember the name of the film is because the last time any of you saw it was more than a couple years ago. Or, maybe she’s just a secret Rodrick stan.

You know that the waiter is going back into the kitchen after they take your order to tell everyone about the customer who weirdly pronounced pepperoni when ordering their pizza just now.

Who Taught You This?

Parents always seem to come up with these texting acronyms that no one has any idea where they came from, and then when you don’t know them they make it seem like somehow you’re the uncool one.

It’s a little more grammatically correct than most people would choose to go with, but just like the woman who calls it Kentucky Fried Chicken instead of KFC, they’re not wrong.

Where Did Billy Come From?

A puffing Billy sounds like some breed of penguin you’d hear about on a nature documentary, or maybe the name of a fish you could buy in a pet store, but it definitely doesn’t sound like the name of a rapper.

It’s A Part Of Life

Mispronouncing or misnaming television shows, especially ones that feature celebrities or could be considered reality TV, is basically a rite of passage for any parent. When you become a parent, you forget the names of TV shows.

Some Things Are Better Left Unexplained

This one…we have no explanation for this. Nothing about it makes sense except for the fact that it comes out of your mom’s mouth, which does help make it more understandable.

He’s The Stunning One

He sees the world through rose-colored glasses, and you can’t convince him to be any less happy about it. There are worse things in life than being around someone who is constantly positive.

It would be confusing the first few times around, but at least if enough people are referencing it like that, you’ll quickly be able to figure out what they’re talking about in the future.

The fact that your parents are improperly using the term “ok boomer,” as if it’s an insult to you, a millennial, really just further solidifies the whole purpose of the statement.
