Does your family participate in the Elf on the Shelf tradition? We love how creative some parents get with this whole endeavor. Sometimes we think that Elf on the Shelf is even more fun for parents than it is for kids. These people really went above and beyond with their Elf on the Shelf scenes this year.
Keep reading to see elves from pop culture, elves who got into some real trouble, and elves who are just having a good time.
Christmas Is Coming
Young kids may not get this Game of Thrones reference, but we certainly do. Don’t do it for the kids, do it for the internet points. We’re very impressed with this handcrafted candy cane throne.
The Royal Elves
These elves must have been watching a lot of Netflix this year. I mean, what else is there to do when you’re stuck inside all day? Is anybody else obsessed with The Crown?
Okay, so kids who were born before the ’80s (which is all kids nowadays) probably won’t get this reference, but we get it, and that’s all that matters. Who doesn’t love a Bueller elf?
Spidey Got Him
All it took was a Spider-Man action figure and some dental floss to make this little Elf on the Shelf scene. I wonder what Mr. Elf did to get into so much trouble with Spidey.
DJ Elf On The Shelf
This Elf on the Shelf is spinning some sick tunes. It looks like his Pokémon audience is really enjoying themselves. This is so creative. The little hoodie is a nice touch.
These elves are having a great time sliding down this snowy hill made out of a white towel. This is a great way to use those mini doughnut floatation devices.
Elf The Tattoo Artist
This elf is busy giving his friend a tattoo. Does he have much tattoo experience? Probably not. Is that going to stop him? Of course not. He’s an artist at work.
Elf On A Shelf In 2020
Elf on a Shelf might look a little different this year. This elf decided that the safest way to do Christmas in 2020 was to isolate himself in this quarantine jar.
What A Classic
This might not be the most child-friendly movie reference in the world, but we do give major props to whoever pulled this off. Poor horsey. He really did deserve better.
You’ll Float Too
To most kids, these elves will just look like a kid in a raincoat and a friendly clown. They don’t have to know that the clown is spooky and murderous.
Turned Into Dust
Unfortunately, this elf was the victim of Thanatos’s master plan. There were just too many elves in the world and not enough shelves. We were getting overpopulated. We can’t all go on living.
How Is He Going To Get Out Of This Mess?
I’m not sure how this elf ended up in a bullet blender, but let’s just hope that the kids in this house find him before he gets turned into an elf smoothie.
Let’s Get Lit
This is such a creative use of a Lite-Brite. Remember when we all had to have one of these in the ’90s? Either they had some stellar marketing, or toys were a lot less cool back then.
Get Off The Sauce
This elf has been hitting the maple syrup a little too hard lately. Is that a beer funnel? I know it’s Christmas, but maybe he should lay off the sauce for a bit…
A Boxing Match
This elf seems to have gotten himself into some kind of boxing match, and now there’s a whole audience watching him. Elves really shouldn’t be fighting. They’re calm and peaceful creatures.
Trying To Get To The Liquor
This elf knows where mom and dad keep the liquor, and he’s going to do everything he can to get to those forbidden bottles—even if that means climbing up the side of a fridge.
The Milk’s Gone Bad
We’ve seen people do the whole “milk’s gone bad” prank a whole bunch of times on the internet, but we like this version that combines the classic prank with a Christmas tradition.
That’s Not Lemonade
You know what? That lemonade does look extremely yellow. Maybe there’s food coloring in it or something. This elf seems to have gotten in a whole lot of trouble. Let’s just back away slowly.
Caught In A Web
We love this combination of Christmas and Halloween. A lot of work must have gone into making this web. It looks like somebody made it by hand. It had to be sturdy enough to support an entire elf.
One Of The Bunch
This elf is trying to blend in with a bunch of bananas. We think he actually did a pretty good job. He’s just a little bit bigger than all of the other bananas.
There Has Been An Accident
There’s something to be said for doing these unique (and sometimes disturbing) Elf on a Shelf scenes in the privacy of your own home. You don’t want to frighten all of the neighbors.
Elf In Netflix
How is this elf going to get out of the Netflix screen? It looks like he might be stuck in there for a long time. How does one get an elf out of Netflix?
Nothing Left But Bones
It looks like somebody ate all of this elf’s tasty flesh and left nothing behind but a pile of bones. Well, this looks like something that could potentially traumatize young children.
Remember this scene from Friends? I think about this scene every time I move furniture (which I do surprisingly often). That doll does look a lot like Ross (minus the surf shirt).
Sixteen Christmas Candles
This is such a classic scene. It might not be the most festive movie in the world, but if you put an elf in it, any movie can be festive and Christmasy.
Elf The Pedicurist
This elf went to beauty school and became a master pedicurist. Then he painted dad’s toes. The kids are definitely going to get a kick out of this one. Bravo, parents.
Poor Mr. Potato Head
It looks like this elf is making some latkes for Chanukah, only he’s shredding the only potato in the house with human features. Poor Mr. Potato Head. He never saw this coming.
Ready, Set, Go
You really shouldn’t be drag racing out on the streets, especially during the cold winter months when the roads are icy. I don’t expect the elves to know any better, but Barbie shouldn’t have let this happen.
It’s Always Sunny By The Christmas Tree
Remember this scene from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia? Even if you don’t watch the show, an elf with human hands is still a pretty funny image. We love this one.
Making Flour Angels
This elf didn’t just make a mess, he made a mess and started playing in it. These parents must be super dedicated to this Christmas tradition. That’s going to be annoying to clean up.
