Couple Stages Funny Photoshoot Celebrating Vasectomy And Child-Free Life

From birthdays to engagements, weddings, and birth announcements, people love doing photoshoots in order to celebrate big milestone moments.

But have you ever decided to have a photoshoot to celebrate the fact that you don’t want children? One couple from Indiana did, and their story – and the hilarious photos – have gone viral.

We’re Having A Baby

Whether it’s a married couple or a single person, many people dream of one day becoming a parent. It’s a life-changing decision, and once the time comes, people can’t wait to share the news.

By word of mouth or a gender reveal party, parents also have a multitude of ways to tell friends and family that they’re expecting. Some people also opt for elaborate maternity photoshoots.

The Child-Free Life

But when it comes to family planning, not everyone is sold on the idea of having children or even getting married. After all, everyone has their own personal view on what their “perfect” life should look like.

So when one couple decided to celebrate their child-free life with the world, they took a page right out of the maternity photoshoot playbook.

The Facebook Post

Tyler Frederick and Chelsea Roy are a couple living in Indiana. The pair have been together for four years and have known for quite a while that parenthood wasn’t for them. With this in mind, they decided to stage a fun photoshoot and shared the photos on Facebook, which have since gone viral.

“We have a very exciting announcement to make!” Tyler begins his post.

We’re (Not) Having A Baby

The couple decided to stage a photoshoot celebrating Tyler’s vasectomy. Complete with a baby onesie that says “Coming never”, men’s underwear that says “Snip-Snip”, and even a prop pair of kid scissors, the photoshoot is getting noticed on social media.

“We are expecting… NEVER! Got snipped mid-December and looking forward to the child-free life,” Tyler writes.

What Is a Vasectomy Anyways?

Perhaps you or someone you know has had the procedure done before, or perhaps you’ve only ever heard of it. So what is a vasectomy?

A vasectomy is a simple surgical procedure in which the tubes that are responsible for carrying sperm are cut then sealed off, which reduces the risk of getting someone pregnant during sexual intercourse. The procedure is permanent and nearly 100 percent effective.

How Did The Idea Get Started?

In an interview with TODAY Parents, Tyler says that the idea for the vasectomy photoshoot was all him. He admits that he wasn’t totally sure about the plan at first, but ended up having a lot of fun.

Tyler ended up recruiting his close friend and professional photographer, Elijah VanDine to spearhead the photoshoot, adding that this type of shoot was a first for his friend.

Just The Two Of Us

Tyler and Chelsea add that they have never had the desire to have children. Friends and family of the couple have always known about their feelings when it comes to having kids, and say they’ve never felt any undue pressure to raise a family.

The couple has friends who are parents, whom Tyler calls “rockstars”, but Tyler says that parenting is something he’s not cut out for.

Going Viral

When Tyler shared the post publicly, the most he was expecting was a couple of hundred shares. The post has so far received 13,000 reactions, 10,000 comments, and 16,000 shares.

Family and friends’ reactions to the vasectomy photoshoot have been supportive and humorous. On social media, the reaction has also been mostly positive, and while there have been a few haters, Tyler says “it’s to be expected.”

Making Waves

It’s becoming more popular than ever before for people to remain child-free, but sometimes this choice is met with backlash.

Even though it was never Tyler or Chelsea’s intention, the photoshoot has helped normalize individuals and couples who choose to be child-free, and they are happy to hear that their photoshoot has helped more people feel accepted.

Normalizing The Child-Free Life

Tyler says that because this child-free choice is becoming more commonplace, it’s best to wait for people to share the news with family and friends rather than bombard people with personal questions.

“If these pictures make things any easier for someone pressured into having kids, or helps normalize this choice, then I’m happy to have helped others even just a little,” Tyler says.
