It’s easy to celebrate the accomplishments of celebrities. They thrill us with their athleticism, make us cry with their acting chops, and they regularly prove that having the right talent can be enough to accomplish all of our dreams. Unfortunately, these celebrities are also dads but have failed to act like the father their children deserve.
From failure to pay child support, even with millions in the bank, to outright refusing to be a part of their child’s life, these deadbeat celebrity dads are sad excuses for parents.
Wait until you see the horrible thing Eddie Murphy did to his daughter after he impregnated Spice Girl Mel B.
Matthew Knowles Allegedly Stole From Beyonce
Dave Hogan/Getty Images
I wanted to kick off our list by highlighting a despicable act that goes beyond simply denying money for your child. After Beyonce became a superstar it was discovered that her dad, Matthew Knowles, was allegedly having various affairs. If that wasn’t enough, it was also rumored that he was stealing money from his own daughter. The rumors, and apparently enough proof presented to his daughter, led to her management team firing Matthew and sending him on his way.
Allen Iverson Made $200 Million Then Refused To Support His Children
If you’re a fan of the NBA this one probably won’t offer much of a surprise. Allen Iverson was known for his on-and-off-court tantrums but he acted like an even bigger child when it came to his five kids. After his wife filed for divorce, Iverson, who earned $200 million during his NBA career, refused to pay child support. Taking things one step further, he went to court multiple times to ensure he wouldn’t be stuck footing the bill that would ensure his children were taken care of until they turned 18. Even worse, he emptied his wife’s joint account, leaving her penniless after they split up. This guy’s a real winner.
Levi Johnston Blew His Money On Guns And Boats
I was hesitant to call Levi Johnston a celebrity but for a short time period his relationship with Bristol Palin put him in the spotlight and earned him an estimated $1 million. Rather than paying child support, he spent his money on guns, boats, and four-wheelers. In December 2012 it was revealed that Levi had earned more than $1 million in a single year but couldn’t afford to pay $67,000 in back child support for his son Tripp. A source said Levi thought it was important to blow his cash on “manly” items.
Flavor Flav Paid Support Only To Avoid Jail Time
In news that will shock exactly zero people, Public Enemy rapper Flavor Flav failed to pay $111,000 in back child support to Angie Parker, mother to three of his seven children. The clock-wearing rapper only paid up when a judge threatened to sentence him to 180 days in jail. Flavor Flav coughed up $25,000 and agreed to add an extra $1,200 to his monthly payments until he fulfilled his obligations. This is why you don’t have a bunch of children with a crazy rapper who everyone knows is insane.
Edward Furlong’s Son Allegedly Tested Positive For Cocaine After A Visit
Edward Furlong made a bunch of money and gained international praise for his roles in a handful of movies including Terminator 2, Pet Cemetary Two, and American Heart. After his stardom dried up, his life went downhill. He began to take drugs, became a raging alcoholic, and was arrested for domestic abuse. He also failed to pay tens of thousands of dollars in child support. In 2012, his six-year-old son returned home after a visit with dad and allegedly tested positive for cocaine. If this is all true, someone needs to send Skynet after this deadbeat celebrity dad.
Eddie Murphy Refused To Contact His Daughter After A Paternity Test
Eddie Murphy has amused his fanbase for decades but his real-life parental instincts are nothing to laugh about. Murphy tried to deny he was the father of Mel B’s daughter, Angel. After a paternity test proved he was the little girl’s dad, he refused to have contact with the child. The Spice Girl’s reps made numerous attempts to contact Murphy but he wouldn’t listen. Maybe they needed to get a Moose or a Racoon to talk to him all Dr. Dolittle Style.
Terrell Owens made more than $80 million during his NFL career…so why did he ask a judge for a decrease in his child support payments?
Charlie Sheen Tried To Evict His Young Children
If you have followed even two seconds of Charlie Sheen’s career you’re probably not surprised that he has been involved in his share of deadbeat celebrity dad moments. Following his divorce from Denise Richards, Sheen asked her and their children to move into a house next to his. Although she was reluctant, the actress agreed. But when they moved in, Sheen started acting more erratically, turned violent, and even tried to evict them. Who would have thought that drug use, alcohol binges, and unprotected sex would seem bland compared to Sheen’s lack of any dad instincts?
Arnold Schwarzenegger Hid A Child He Had Out Of Wedlock
This is old news at this point but I had to include Arnold Schwarzenegger on this list because his story was insane. The former Governor of California and product of a rogue AI gone awry, The Governator had a child with his housekeeper, Mildred Baena and then asked her to hide his association with their son, Joseph. As Joseph grew older he started to bare an incredible resemblance to his son and the actor turned politician started paying off his housekeeper to keep their secret. Eventually, the truth came out and Maria Shriver terminated their relationship.
The Creepy Antics Of Woody Allen
Being a deadbeat dad can mean different things to different people. In my opinion, Woody Allen fits the bill. He had a 12-year relationship with Mia Farrow and then at 56 years old, began dating Farrow’s adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn, who was 21 years old at the time. During a very heated public custody battle, Farrow accused Allen of molesting her adopted daughter, Dylan, who was seven years old at the time. The courts eventually gave Farrow custody of the children but couldn’t find any proof of the molestation. Allen has been married to Soon-Yi since 1997. Just ew.
Alec Baldwin And His ‘Thoughtless Little Pig’
Alec Baldwin is known for losing his cool with members of the paparazzi and plenty of other people. In 2007, he was recorded in a voicemail as he called his 11-year-old daughter a “thoughtless little pig” among other names. The reason this dad lost his cool? His daughter didn’t pick up the phone the second he called. Deadbeat dad? Maybe not completely. But in terms of emotional support, I would say 100% yes.
NAS Was Forced To Pay His Wife
Kelis’ milkshake brought all the boys to the yard yet she chose to have a child with one of the most deadbeat of all the men she’s probably ever met. Rapper Nas and his now-ex-wife Kelis split when she was eight months pregnant. Kelis found out Nas cheated on her which led to their divorce. Nas refused to pay a single dime to care for their newborn child, which Kelis was not going to accept. The rapper-turned-deadbeat-dad only paid up when a court demanded that he hand over a ton of cash.
Terrell Owens Blew All His Money Without Thinking About His Kids
Ronald Martinez/Getty Images
Terrell Owens was a hot head on the football field but his athleticism scored him repeated offers from NFL teams and about $80 million during his football career. In 2011, Owens told a judge he blew all his money and needed to have his child support reduced. I understand that sometimes a person’s financial situation changes but Owens knew he had family responsibilities but decided to spend all his money on needless and selfish stuff. I’m pretty sure nobody was surprised by Owens’ actions.
Using your child’s death for personal gain is one of the worst things a parent can do, but one of these deadbeat dads did it.
Evander Holyfield Fell Way Behind With His Child Support Bills
Somebody wasn’t listening during health ed when the condoms talk was given. This guy had 11 children with six different women and then he refused to support any of them. At one point, he owed $327,858.36 in child support. A judge told him to pay up or he would have his driver’s license suspended because apparently, that’s the type of punishment you hand to a former hall of fame boxer who couldn’t save enough money from his multi-million dollar career to support his children until they turned 18.
Val Kilmer Owed $27,500 In Back Child Support
In 2011, Val Kilmer was taken to court by his ex-wife, Joanne Whalley. The actor, who had two children with Whalley, had apparently fallen behind with child support payments to the tune of $27,500. Apparently, the wealthy actor was paying his ex-wife of eight years that sum of money each month but fell behind on various occasions. I’m willing to believe that a guy with a payment that big didn’t simply let the payment slip his mind. Also, who do I have to marry and then divorce to get that type of monthly paycheck?
Dennis Rodman Obviously Made Our List Of Celebrity Deadbeat Dads
Dennis Rodman is practically best friends with North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un these days and apparently, that relationship is healthier than the one he had with ex-wife, Michelle Rodman. The couple split and in 2012 he was ordered to pay $500,000 in back child support. Rodman missed payments in 2009 and 2010 and was ordered previously to complete 100 hours of community service because of his failure to support his children. Again, this surprised absolutely nobody, probably not even Rodman’s own parents.
Karl Malone Is Just A Really Despicable Dad
Karl Malone is an NBA great and a deadbeat dad. He blew off his seven children for most of his professional career and then told his son it was “too late” for a relationship. Oh yeah, he made that comment to his son at the kid’s high school graduation. He didn’t see his twin children at all and he impregnated a 13-year-old girl and then fought $125 per week in child support payments after he got her pregnant. This guy is just a giant pile of wasted space. At least two of his kids seemed to turn out okay — his daughter is WNBA superstar Cheryl Ford and his son is former NFL player Demetrius Bell.
Gabriel Aubrey Was Living Off His Ex-Wife’s Hollywood Fortune
After Halle Berry divorced Gabriel Aubry she was ordered to pay him $16,000 a month in child support for their 6-year-old daughter, Nahla. The money started flowing in 2011 but Aubrey was doing nothing productive for years. In 2014, Berry petitioned the court to reduce the $16,000 per month down to just $3,000 every 30 days. She argued that the reduction would force her ex-husband to get a job and do his part in supporting Nahla. I have a feeling this guy was buying his daughter presents to win favor with his child, presents her mom was actually paying for but that’s just my theory based on all the stories that surfaced during their contentious court appearances.
Bobby Brown Had Access To His Daughter But Ignored Her
After Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston split it was his daughter who suffered the most. Whitney apparently gave Brown access to Bobbi Kristina but he didn’t come around much according to various sources. It was largely rumored that Bobbi Brown didn’t step up to the plate and didn’t seem to take much interest in his daughter’s life. After Whitney Houston died in 2012, Brown allegedly refused to step up to be there for his daughter. Sadly, there was a lot of lost years and in 2015 Bobbi Kristina died. It is believed that Brown hadn’t talked to her in the last five years of her life, despite his public outcries over his daughter and how much he would miss her. Demanding publicity from his daughter’s death is a low he should never be allowed to recover from.
Up next: the deadbeat dad whose gonna make us lose our minds, up in here, up in here.
DMX Was Taken Into Custody Over His Awful Parenting
Robin Platzer/Getty Images
Deadbeat dad and well-known Rapper DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was arrested in NYC for failure to pay more than $400,000 in child support. DMX was about to perform as Master of Ceremony at a Radio City Music Hall concert in June 2015 when his child support issues led to trouble. DMX also had outstanding warrants for bail jumping and aggravated unlicensed motor vehicle operation. He was eventually sentenced to six months in jail. I’m calling this justified karma in action.
Michael Lohan Was A Deadbeat Dad To His Celebrity Daughter
For a short, sad time in human history, Michael Lohan was a celebrity just because of his association with his daughter, Lindsay Lohan. Her dad became addicted to alcohol and cocaine and refused to pay child support. He allegedly pushed his daughter to take on roles so he could have money to fuel his own partying ways. In the end, he blamed everyone else for his problems and his daughter’s failing moving career. I think most sane people can agree that Michael Lohan was not only a deadbeat celebrity dad but also a dangerous influence on his daughter, who also fell into a lifestyle of constant partying which likely killed her A-List career.
