Mom ‘Cusses Out’ Husband For Piercing Their Daughter’s Ears Without Telling Her

When it comes to parenting, there are no hard and fast rules about how to do things. I mean, yeah, you know not to let the kids start fires and that they should eat vegetables, but everything else can be up to the discretion of the parents themselves.

However, one dad really came under fire for one of the decisions he made.

While the rest of the world might not agree on all of your child-rearing decisions, you're supposed to work with your spouse to make mutually supported decisions when it comes to your kids.

When one acts in a way the other parent doesn't want, it can create some intense friction.

In many cultures, it is common for parents to take their baby girls to get their ears pierced when they are only a few years old.

The procedure isn't all that painful, and it's pretty simple.

The 23-year-old mother of the child took to Reddit to ask people for advice on the issue.

She was upset that her husband had taken their one-year-old daughter to get her ears pierced.

However, He'd Had It On His Mind For A While

Since their baby girl was about 6 months old, the father had been talking about wanting to pierce her ears.

His sisters' ears had been pierced when they were young, and he thought it was a nice accessory for their daughter to have.

The mother explained that from the moment he brought it up to all the times he mentioned it again, she was adamant that they would not pierce their little girl's ears. She said, "I'm personally against babies getting their ears pierced for a variety of different reasons."

She cited reasons such as it being painful, that the ears are still growing, and it can be difficult to care for the piercing to avoid infection.

Even after her initial shutdown, the father spent the next few months trying to change her mind.

After a while, however, the wife noted that he stopped bringing it up, so she assumed he had gotten the message.

When she bent down, she saw the two little stud earrings in her daughter's ears.

After securing her daughter in the playpen, the wife ran downstairs to confront her husband about the pierced ears and cussed him out.

His defense was that he thought, once the mother had seen how pretty the earrings looked, that she would change her mind about them.

The wife is upset that her husband clearly went behind her back to pierce their daughter's ears.

The husband argues that it's his daughter too, and he should be able to make a decision like this. He also called his wife a prude for her mindset.

Looking for some third-party advice, the wife asked strangers on Reddit who was being unreasonable: was it her or her husband?

People were quick to comment with their opinions on the subject.

Most people pointed to that problem not quite being the piercing itself, but the fact that her husband had purposely gone behind her back knowing she was against it.

Others pointed out that earrings are, at the end of the day, not a necessity to a baby, and it was his own selfish interests that drove him to get the piercings done.

Even People Who Are Pro-Piercing Took The Mom's Side

I come from a culture where babies getting their ears pierced is the norm so I don't really get the fuss over being against it, but that's just cultural differences I guess. Either way, you didn't want to get her ears pierced, so your husband going behind your back to do it is definitely AH behavior.

Even people who had their ears pierced at a young age or had a cultural background where the practice was the norm stood by the mom's point of view.

Others who were against baby ear piercing mentioned that the daughter should be able to make the choice later on in life for herself.

Parenting, on the whole, is hard, but it's even harder when you're working against the person who is in the trenches with you.
