Sister-In-Law Posts On Facebook Saying Nephew Died…When He Didn’t

Plenty of people deal with in-laws who aren't exactly their favorite people to be around. You choose who you marry, but you can't choose who your new family is going to be.

Some have it worse than others, for sure. Like this one woman who has had to deal with a less-than-pleasant sister-in-law for a few years. This time though, she took it too far.

In a Reddit post to the "Am I The A**hole" community, Reddit user alta11901791 decided to share a story about her sister-in-law.

The user is a 35-year-old woman whose brother is married with two children. Unfortunately, he's married to someone who has "always been disrespectful" to his sister, the one writing this point.

The user writes that her sister-in-law wore "inappropriate clothing" to the user's husband's funeral, and took selfies with her friends during the funeral.

After her husband's death, this SIL also suggested that this woman put her 6-year-old son up for adoption because single mothers have a lower chance of meeting someone.

How, you ask, would the sister have heard this about her nephew? From her sister-in-law's Facebook post.

The surgery finished at 8 a.m., and at 9 a.m. that day, the SIL posted on Facebook saying that the young boy had passed away. Naturally, the family and friends who saw that post began to freak out.

Apparently, the sister-in-law had tried to call the mom, and when she didn't hear back, she came to the conclusion that the boy must have died in surgery.

Because that makes perfect sense.

After assuring everyone in her family that the boy was fine, the mother then found out that the sister-in-law had purposely made the accusation even though she knew she was jumping to conclusions.

She also intentionally did this while her husband was out of town.

Once he was informed of what his wife did, the brother apparently packed his bags and left their house "after he berated [his wife]."

The brother then apologized to his sister for what his wife had done, but that didn't stop the people from calling to extend condolences about a son who wasn't actually dead.

While her family understands why she's upset, they also feel that her brother should stay with his wife for the sake of their children, so they've agreed to work things out in therapy.

Part of that deal is that the SIL must make a public apology to the mom, but she doesn't want to hear it.

This is the part that she wants the advice about. "I told them I don't want to see her, but they argued saying they don't want this issue to get more complicated," she writes—even though it seems like we're well past "complicated."

Is she in the wrong for not being willing to accept her SIL's apology and refusing to see her? Or is it understandable that she wouldn't want to be around a woman who claimed her child was dead when he wasn't?
