Stay-At-Home Mom Yells At Husband For Treating Her Like A Secretary

Being a stay-at-home parent means you take on a lot of roles for your child. You're a chauffeur, a chef, a referee, and a source of love and entertainment.

As a stay-at-home parent, you're typically in charge of many household duties beyond just taking care of your child. Something that isn't included in your duties, though, is being the secretary to your husband while he works.

Thanks to the pandemic, many families were forced to adjust their daily responsibilities and schedules, adjusting to one or both parents working from home full-time.

Reddit user Amita4580631 is no different. She's a stay-at-home parent; however, her husband works full-time and has been doing so from home.

According to his wife, her husband is "very committed to his work" and has asked for her assistance "a few times a day" while working from home.

"Assistance" includes things such as making him coffee throughout the day or bringing him a file left in another room. That was all fine and dandy.

While it was fine at first, he started asking for more and more assistance throughout the day, "several times an hour."

Even during times where she was busy cooking or entertaining guests, she "would have to excuse myself several times to go see what he needs."

The duties began to add up, and suddenly she found herself doing things like arranging appointments with his clients, copying papers and reports for him, and entertaining his clients while he's in the bathroom or getting dressed.

He even brought in a second landline to the house so he could phone her within the home instead of having to shout for her while he was on phone calls.

While trying to comfort her crying friend in the backyard, her husband started repeatedly texting her asking for her help finding a file. He sent so many texts that she turned her phone off until after her friend left.

His response? "Of course not, silly. Why would you think that?" As if that wouldn't be an infuriating response for his wife.

He went on to say that he was in the middle of an important meeting and didn't want to be unprofessional by having to get up and leave in the middle of it.

He also said that since he helped around the house, "there was nothing wrong with [her] helping out with his work."

The Comments Were Not In His Favor

On top of agreeing that her husband was treating her like a secretary, many people pointed out the difference between being a husband and being an employee.

It's great that you help with the kids and do chores around the house, but that's your job as a husband and a father. You can't substitute doing that for working a job.
