Woman Shares Why Moms Always Finish Eating Last After Seeing A Husband Leave His Wife In A Restaurant

My grandma used always be the last person to finish eating, and we used to tease her about it endlessly. Now that I’m grown up, I look back and see that it was because she was trying to make sure that my sisters and I had what we needed and that my dad, even as an adult, was getting what he needed.

The emotional and mental burden of being a mother is endless and always shows itself in mundane ways.

Christine Koh Shared A Story On Facebook About A Mom

She recounts how a mother was trying to eat her food, and her husband is asking her, “what is taking so long?”

Facebook post: Today I saw a hubby questioning his wife angrily (in front of everyone in the foodcourt) because he couldn't understand why his wife was always so slow in eating. The reason for his anger and frustration was because he no longer could handle both a baby in a carrier and a wailing toddler. Though the wife did not reply her hubby, you can tell that there was sadness through her eyes. Eventually, the hubby stormed off with the 2 kids, leaving the wife sitting there quietly to eat her dinner.

Koh says that the children were becoming restless, and it was clear that the dad was having a hard time keeping them under control.

It Made Her Think About Her Own Life

She reflected on how she, too, in her home was always the last one to finish eating.

Facebook Post: I felt so bad that I asked my 2 little apples if they ever wondered why a mother will always be the last one to leave the house and the last one to finish eating when both the hubby and kids are already done with it. Usually, when we are going out, without fail, everyone will be waiting outside the house while I will be seen frantically trying to pack the 101 things before I dash out of the house.

And not just the last one to finish eating, but usually the last one to leave the house, the last one to be ready to go, the last one to get to bed at night—she was always last.

She Wondered Why That Was

She didn’t consider herself slow. In fact, she hardly got dressed up and rarely put on makeup. It had to be something else.

Facebook post: Why am I always the slowest? I usually neither dress up nor make up. I actually spend about an average of 10 mins on getting myself ready but an hour to get both my kids ready, including packing for them and my hubby. A mother is also usually the one who will subconsciously take the initiative to take on the role of feeding the kids so as to make sure all her love ones are fed first before herself.

Then it dawned on her. The answer was so simple. It was because she busy looking after her family.

It All Came Down To A Mother’s Love

Christine Koh said that she wishes she could have told the man that his wife was eating slowly because she was putting her family first. While he ate his supper warm, she was feeding the kids.

Facebook post: So to answer the hubby who posted this question to his wife, the reason why mothers are always the slowest is because we love our family so much that we will never put ourselves before our family. You probably cannot change the fact that your wife is always the slowest but you can change your perception to be more understanding of this love that a mother/wife have for our family which we can never compromise.

Her role as a mother is never going to change. What can change is his attitude about it.

People On Facebook Found The Story Very Touching

In the comments, there were many women who were sharing their stories of similar situations.

Facebook Comment: Ladies, take one or two days in a year to put yourself first. Just 24 hours. Eat that meal first or get yourself ready first and get your partners or family to fo the rest like cook, clean, prepare and handle the kids. Let them know how constant our mental fatigue is, that our physical exhaustion is perpetual and how often we absorb insensitivity from people closest to us. They need to know too how it is being us.....

There were even women who were a little bit older offering advice to young parents. That advice mainly being that every mom should make sure to take some time for herself.

There Were Also Men Thanking Koh For Her Post

It’s easy to take for granted that someone is there doing everything for you. Most men want to be equal to their partners and try their best to be helpful when they can.

Facebook comment: A good man respects his significant other for the sacrifices she had to make for him and his family. I won't judge the behaviour of this man in the article, but we need to love our significant other more, not less.
